Machine Learning Engineer Intern, (MS/PhD) 2026

Position Overview

Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, serving over 300 million paid memberships globally. We are looking for Machine Learning Engineers for our internship program to design, build, and deploy machine learning models and systems that power personalized recommendations, content optimization, search, streaming quality, and other data-driven features. Interns will develop scalable ML pipelines and infrastructure, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and experiment with cutting-edge algorithms to improve user experience and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy machine learning models that drive personalized recommendations and other data-driven features.
• Develop and maintain scalable ML pipelines and infrastructure.
• Collaborate with data scientists, product managers, and engineers to translate business needs into ML solutions.
• Experiment with innovative algorithms and techniques to enhance user experience and operational efficiency.
• Engage with teams across Content, Choosing & Conversation, Commerce, or AI for Member Systems to find the best fit for your skills.

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled student pursuing an advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field.
• Experience in supervised and/or unsupervised machine learning, data science methods, ML operations, or exposure to Large Language Models and Reinforcement Learning.
• Familiarity with software engineering best practices (e.g., version control, testing, code review).
• Understanding of end-to-end machine learning pipelines and common challenges such as explainability.
• Proficiency or familiarity with programming languages such as Python, Java, Scala, or Spark.
• Experience with ML frameworks and libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, or Scikit-learn.
• Great communication skills, both oral and written.
• Intent to return to your degree program after the internship.

Benefits & Perks

• Compensation: $40/hour - $85/hour based on market factors, your skills, experience, and location.
• Paid internship for a minimum of 12 weeks with flexible start dates available in January 2026 (Winter), May, or June 2026 (Summer).
• Interns will work primarily at our headquarters in Los Gatos, CA, with select opportunities in Los Angeles or New York.
