Job Description
Position Overview
Kansas City Public Schools is seeking a Chief Operations Officer responsible for providing strategic leadership in the planning, development, and implementation of policies, programs, and practices that support the operational procedures of the assigned division. Salary: $152,000 (Salary commensurate with education and experience). Schedule: 12 months, 7.5 hours per day/5 days per week (260 work days). Reports to the Superintendent. As a key member of the Executive team, this role is critical to ensuring alignment with the district’s strategic plan and accountability measures.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversees and directs Facilities and Maintenance, Child Nutrition, Transportation, Office of Bond Planning, Construction and Repurposing to ensure maximum efficiency and alignment with district priorities.
- Develops and implements the Capital Improvement Plan in alignment with strategic goals.
- Negotiates or re-negotiates contracts and manages the performance of outsourced vendors.
- Interprets laws, regulations, statutes, rules, and policies affecting KCPS operations and contributes to achieving full school district accreditation.
- Develops action plans, policies, and procedures to facilitate the attainment of division operational targets while driving innovation and process improvement.
- Attends and presents at Board of Education meetings and collaborates with department/division leadership to support the KCPS mission.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, safety management, engineering, or a related field.
- Three to five years of experience leading operations in a K12 or higher education environment.
- Demonstrated experience in leading construction planning and execution.
- Strong leadership abilities, excellent presentation skills, and a proven track record of evaluating and increasing operational efficiency.
- Proficiency in the MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, late evenings, holidays, and during emergency circumstances.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Doctorate degree in Education or a related field.
- Prior experience as a senior-level executive in a K12 environment.
- Thorough working knowledge of Missouri State Standards and Benchmarks.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
