Job Description
Position Overview
Gilbane is seeking a Lead Superintendent - Data Center to independently manage all field operations on hyperscale data center projects. You will be on the job site every day, playing a key role on the project team while building diverse developments such as schools, labs, hospitals, corporate offices, and sports arenas. Key Responsibilities
- Direct the day-to-day coordination of trade contractors and their sub-contractors to ensure quality work and adherence to the approved project schedule.
- Develop, document, and communicate work plans regarding field changes.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of contract documents to proactively anticipate potential issues.
- Ensure all necessary permits for construction are obtained or verified with subcontractors.
- Establish credibility among owners, trade contractors, unions, and other project partners by maintaining a fair and trustworthy environment.
- Act as the primary safety representative on site, enforcing safety compliance across all trades.
- Lead regular contractor meetings and maintain detailed daily reports and documentation using software tools.
- Create, manage, and update the project schedule and implement contingency plans when necessary.
- Communicate schedule status, updates, and changes to the project team and trade contractors.
- Plan, coordinate, and manage jobsite logistics.
- Develop and oversee the Quality in Construction (QIC) plan in partnership with the Operations Excellence team.
- Coordinate with Site Services/Next 150 to order materials and schedule crew.
- Train Field Engineers and Superintendents on project needs, construction knowledge, and business acumen.
- Review and support the writing of scopes of work and participate in buyout.
- Assist in Time and Materials (T&M) tracking and general requirements financial forecasting.
- Lead daily huddles, pre-task plan reviews, and other team meetings to ensure effective communication.
- Collaborate with business development to integrate sales strategies with performance metrics on assigned projects.
- Manage workload and performance of direct reports while fostering a positive, inclusive work environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management.
- 7-12 years of experience leading a project or component of work valued at $50 million or larger in a superintendent role.
- Hyperscale data center experience.
- OSHA 30-hour certification, STS-C Certification, First Aid, CPR, AED, and Stop the Bleed Training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong technical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the project team and maintain construction-document literacy across all phases.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and knowledgeable in construction software tools including logistics and scheduling software.
- Deep understanding of construction safety processes with the ability to enforce a "safety first" culture.
