Position Overview
Entry-Level Geologist/Hydrogeologist or Entry-Level Engineer
Black River Environmental, an environmental consulting firm specializing in the investigation and remediation of contaminated sites across the Pacific Northwest, is seeking a motivated entry-level professional to join our growing team. This position offers a flexible remote work arrangement with required local fieldwork in the Location: Seattle Area. Ideal candidates will ideally have Experience Required: 1 - 3 years of professional experience and a passion for projects that make a difference.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in field activities at contaminated sites by supporting and conducting tasks such as environmental drilling, soil logging and sampling, well installation and development, groundwater sampling, aquifer testing, excavation monitoring, construction oversight, operation and maintenance of remediation systems, and soil gas sampling. Fieldwork is expected to be approximately 50% of your time, subject to project needs and seasonality.
- Support project tasks and coordination by assisting project managers and senior staff with field work coordination, subcontractor liaison, and preparation of project documentation, while gaining exposure to scopes, budgets, and invoicing.
- Analyze and compile environmental data by preparing hydrographs, tables, figures, geologic cross-sections, contaminant plume maps, and contributing to the development of conceptual site models.
- Assist with proposals and technical reports including Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments, Remedial Investigations, Feasibility Studies, Cleanup Action Plans, and Remedial Action Reports with guidance from senior staff.
- Collaborate and communicate with project teams, including project managers, senior technical staff, clients, subcontractors, and regulators to ensure effective project execution.
- Contribute to company initiatives and operations such as graphic design, social media management, health and safety program management, diversity and inclusion initiatives, field equipment maintenance, and marketing support as opportunities arise.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor degree in Geology or Hydrogeology with coursework emphasizing hydrogeology, Pacific Northwest regional geology, contaminant fate and transport, and field experience OR Bachelor's degree in Engineering with a focus on environmental engineering, chemistry, and remediation.
- Qualifications: Strong technical writing and communication skills.
- Requirements: Ability to work remotely, independently, and collaboratively in both field and office environments.
- Qualifications: Demonstrated path to professional licensure (GIT, LG, LHG) in Washington State.
- Requirements: Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Master’s degree in Geology or Hydrogeology.
- Experience Required: 1 – 3 years of relevant environmental consulting experience.
- Qualifications: Current 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and First Aid/CPR training.
- Qualifications: Experience with Washington State cleanup regulations (MTCA) is a plus.
- Qualifications: Comfort working outdoors in varied weather conditions and locations.
