Job Description

Position Overview

Join the LA Kings as a Summer Intern, Data Science Intern. For over 20 years, AEG has been transforming sports and live entertainment by hosting millions of guests and presenting thousands of events worldwide. In this role, you will work within the Business Intelligence department, collaborating with business operations teams to drive strategy, improve revenue, and increase efficiency by collecting, cleaning, modeling, and analyzing data using machine learning, data engineering, and statistical analysis techniques.

Compensation: $19.00 - $21.00| Location: El Segundo, California (On-site)

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the team by creating data models that predict and recommend strategic sports decisions to create new revenue streams.
  • Mine and analyze core business datasets including ticketing purchases, fan demographics, social media metrics, digital marketing spend, media valuations, TV ratings, web analytics, and app usage.
  • Optimize existing models using statistical analysis and machine learning techniques.
  • Assist AEG sports entities by moving, storing, and organizing data, as well as sourcing data via web scraping and API connections.
  • Apply data science principles to solve high-impact business problems.
  • Build data models to address critical business questions.
  • Partner closely with a data science mentor to complete and present a final project.

Required Qualifications

  • Current student pursuing a Masters degree in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • Highly organized, resourceful, and dependable with excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
  • Passion for sports, live entertainment, data, and technology.
  • Strong interest in data science and data engineering.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and machine learning using Python or R.
  • Intermediate to advanced SQL knowledge.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, or Matplotlib.
  • Familiarity or interest in Large Language Models (LLM) or generative AI is a big plus.
  • Prior experience through internships, work, or projects in a related field.
  • Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure, and a strong desire to learn more about the sports and entertainment industry.
