Job Description
Position Overview
As a Designer/Engineer II within our Health sector, you'll be responsible for designing intermediate building systems, preparing design documents, and performing engineering calculations in coordination with project teams. You will also manage tasks and mentor less experienced designers.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform calculations and design basic to intermediate building systems with minimal supervision.
- Prepare system layouts, detailed drawings, and schematics.
- Review shop drawings for conformance to plans and specifications.
- Prepare or modify reports, plans, and designs for projects.
- Perform research and provide recommendations on the feasibility of systems or equipment.
- Provide technical guidance and support to team members.
- Collaborate on business development or pursuit activities.
- Participate in client, company, and industry events to build and maintain professional relationships.
- Maintain proactive communication with clients throughout the project cycle, including answering questions and coordinating requirements.
- Visit job sites to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
- Assist in resolving conflicts involving owners, architects, and contractors as needed.
- Stay current on industry software, products, trends, and evolving codes and standards.
- Apply Henderson’s design guidelines, standards, policies, and procedures.
- Support project coordination activities such as managing emails, coordinating scope and schedule, and ensuring project quality.
- Fulfill responsibilities associated with carrying a PE license and, when enabled, act as an Engineer of Record.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or architectural) and 3 years of relevant experience, or 6 years of experience with a high school diploma/equivalent.
- PE license required (may count toward 1 year of relevant experience).
- Intermediate knowledge in engineering design, the A&E industry, codes, design guides, and standards.
- Intermediate proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam Revu.
- High technical aptitude with the ability to learn and utilize various systems and processes.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Team-oriented with the ability to both collaborate and work independently, including mentoring less experienced designers.
- Adaptability to changing work environments, priorities, and organizational needs.
- Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and relevant engineering design software.
- Demonstrated proficiency in core competencies as outlined in the job description.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Additional certifications and accreditations (e.g., BEMP, CPD, CDP, NICET, RCDD).
- Certifications in sustainability (e.g., CDP, LEED, WELL).
