Job Description
Position Overview
The Research Lab Technician (PRN) - Engineering position in St. Louis provides technical support for the Surface PARTiculate Matter Network (SPARTAN). This global network measures fine particulate concentrations (PM2.5) to evaluate and enhance satellite remote sensing estimates. The role involves laboratory analyses of collected filters—including measurements of mass, chemical composition, and optical characteristics—and clear communication of results with SPARTAN investigators.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze SPARTAN filters for mass and chemical composition using a weighing system, XRF, IC, and manage shipping/receiving of samples.
- Calibrate nephelometers used in SPARTAN.
- Record analysis results in an organized manner and regularly communicate findings with other SPARTAN investigators.
- Perform inspection and maintenance of laboratory equipment and identify repair needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent certification, or a combination of education and experience.
- No specific work experience or professional certification/license is required.
- A driver's license is not required for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or a related field.
- Laboratory experience in air quality analyses.
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory experiments.
- Experience maintaining accurate laboratory records and documentation.
- Capability to identify and resolve technical issues promptly and troubleshoot experimental protocols.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for effective collaboration and reporting of experimental results.
- Familiarity with tools such as Microsoft Office and strong interpersonal communication skills.
