Position Overview
We are currently seeking a Technical Designer III to join our Retail Practice. The Technical Designer III is responsible for developing, organizing, and executing the development of construction documents utilizing creativity, foresight and judgment to meet project requirements and objectives through project completion. They participate as a member of the project team in all aspects of preparing complete and comprehensive architectural construction drawings and specifications while coordinating documents with project consultants and contractors.

- Participate in the design phase activities by providing expertise in detail development
- Engage in all construction phase activities and conduct existing conditions surveys
- Prepare architectural base plans, sections, elevations, details, and construction documents (including demolition, partition, reflected ceiling, telephone/electric/data, finish plans, large scale details, sections, elevations, millwork, cabinetry, door schedules, and construction specifications)
- Review building and accessibility codes and develop design criteria accordingly
- Research products and systems to accomplish the design intent and support the design team
- Prepare bidding documents, general conditions, supplemental conditions, and process shop drawing/sample submissions
- Lead and facilitate the overall design process for moderately complex projects and support larger projects as needed
- Contribute to fee proposals and develop innovative design concepts that are practical, aesthetic, safe, and budget compliant
- Select and specify materials, products, and architectural systems, and assist in subcontractor coordination
- Lead the Construction Administration phase by responding to RFIs, change orders, reviewing shop drawings, and participating in field site reviews
- Ensure all project documentation complies with NELSON standards and develop solutions to technical and design problems
- Prepare 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings and support the team in client assessments and project meetings
- Maintain accurate timesheet and expense report submissions
- Assist with schematic phases through sketching, modification of test fit plans, and related tasks
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of expectations related to high-quality service to clients
- Advanced knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, materials application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness
- Advanced knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals for producing precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
- Understanding of furniture, fixture and equipment (FF&E); architectural/interior finishes; lighting; art signage; color; and material applications to fulfill design intent
- Advanced knowledge of sustainability, integrated design, and LEED guidelines
- Advanced understanding of building regulations, life safety codes, and ADA requirements
- Advanced grasp of project budgets and schedules, along with construction document production techniques and processes
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet established deadlines
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Drafting, or a related field
- Experience Required: 7+ years of relevant industry experience
- Highly proficient in both Revit and AutoCAD
- Familiarity with Photoshop and/or InDesign is preferred
- Must be deadline-oriented with strong attention to detail
