Position Overview

RMW Accounting is a fast-growing, private equity–backed accounting firm with 16 offices across more than 10 states and plans to expand rapidly. We offer comprehensive accounting, tax, and financial services that extend far beyond compliance. The Head of Practice Operations is a pivotal role that architects and implements processes and systems to drive quality and efficiency across our offices, ensuring our professionals are supported with the right frameworks, tools, and insights to succeed.

Reporting to the President, this role partners with office leaders to deliver excellent client service, drive revenue and profit growth, and ensure consistent technical quality and productivity across our rapidly expanding firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain firmwide frameworks for practice management, including service offerings, pricing strategy, staffing models, project management, and client service standards.
  • Partner with office leaders to ensure consistent technical quality and efficient, scalable client service delivery.
  • Coordinate staffing across offices to optimize resource utilization.
  • Develop and monitor KPIs, producing dashboards and insights on utilization, productivity, and client service trends.
  • Lead firmwide adoption of practice management and CRM platforms (e.g., Canopy, Karbon Software) as well as point solutions (e.g., SafeSend, SurePrep, TaxGPT) to enhance productivity and collaboration.
  • Craft and implement training programs in partnership with the People team to advance technical excellence and consistency.
  • Mentor professionals and office leaders, serving as a trusted advisor to the President on leveraging practice management and subject matter expertise for firm growth.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years in public accounting with 5+ years in firm operations or management roles, preferably in a high-growth, multi-office environment.
  • Current or inactive CPA or EA (enrolled agent) preferred, with 3+ years as a tax practitioner strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect domain knowledge with business strategy in a fast-growing firm.
  • Proven track record of leveraging technology to drive actionable insights and productivity.
  • Skilled in analyzing utilization and practice metrics to inform firm strategy and drive improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen.
  • Experience in leading professional development, training programs, and mentoring staff.
  • Ability to build trust across multiple offices and leadership levels, with hands-on, entrepreneurial drive to implement scalable systems.
  • Experience in managing outsourced resources and navigating operational transitions such as firm acquisitions and partner successions.
