Job Description
Position Overview
The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Electrical Engineer Project Manager III (PM3) with a professional engineer license. This role within the Infrastructure Team (Planning, Design and Construction) provides expert project management and leadership for major Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects (≥ $10M TPC) as well as minor projects (< $10M TPC). You will work on highly technical, mission-critical projects that enhance the student, staff, and faculty experience while supporting one of America’s top universities.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate leadership, management, organization, and communication skills.
- Provide excellent customer service to meet client needs and maintain university Design & Construction Standards.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee electrical construction and renovation projects.
- Provide professional direction for project teams to achieve common goals and successful project outcomes.
- Mentor and guide less experienced PM staff to support successful project delivery.
- Ensure consistent, timely, and reliable communication between all project stakeholders.
- Assist with the development of project scope, budget, and schedule for multiple projects simultaneously.
- Track project budgets and schedules while developing necessary reports.
- Maintain accurate project information in facilities database software (FAMIS).
- Procure services from Professional Service Providers (PSPs) and Construction teams, and help administer agreements.
- Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Stay current with legislation, building codes, materials, methods, and university standards.
- Follow project safety requirements in accordance with OSHA standards.
- Participate on committees and task forces to enhance customer service and project delivery.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Professional Engineer license (PE) in Texas or eligibility for reciprocity.
- 5+ years’ experience providing project management for engineering design and construction activities for both renovations and new construction of institutional or commercial facilities.
- Working knowledge of contract documents, construction bidding, and contract negotiation.
- Understanding of life safety and building codes, including NFPA 101, IBC, ASHRAE, IECC, Texas Accessibility Standards, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and scheduling software such as MS Project.
- Must hold a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10 years of experience in the engineering field.
- Experience managing design and construction projects in a higher education setting as the owner’s representative.
- Possession of a Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or similar certification.
