Job Description

Position Overview

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) reports directly to the General Manager/COO and, consistent with the mission of Charlotte Country Club, is responsible for assisting in directing the Club’s accounting functions. This includes establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures while building and managing effective financial and administrative systems spanning finance, accounting, legal, information technology, and physical infrastructure.

Founded in 1910 and located four miles east of uptown Charlotte in the historic Plaza-Midwood neighborhood, Charlotte Country Club is renowned as a top 20 private club in the US and was recognized as a Top-50 Platinum Club of the World by the Club Leaders Forum. At its core, the Club is dedicated to exceptional hospitality and service, offering members a haven of sophistication, fine dining, and memorable events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a role model for Charlotte Country Club by exhibiting core values and working to achieve the Club mission.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with Members, the Board of Governors, community, and staff.
  • Define and implement processes, systems, and infrastructure to support the Club’s financial health and growth over the next 5 to 10 years.
  • Manage all aspects of financial planning, reporting, and analysis, including strategic planning, evaluation, and professional development initiatives.
  • Lead the accounting team and oversee financial systems, reporting, audit preparation, and tax processes.
  • Create and present monthly and annual financial reporting materials and metrics for the Board of Governors.
  • Direct comprehensive budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow management for administration, existing and new programs, and facilities.
  • Coordinate preparation for annual audit and tax activities.
  • Collaborate as a business partner with the General Manager/COO on financial, budgeting, and administrative processes, including HR, payroll, and benefits functions.
  • Participate in Club committees such as the Board of Governors and Finance Committee as directed.
  • Manage the Club’s IT infrastructure and oversee relationships with vendors providing IT support and services while planning for future growth and technology needs.
  • Assist in managing physical capital improvement plans in consultation with department heads, including contract review, planning, and budgeting for projects.
  • Collaborate with the General Manager/COO and Director of Human Resources to align benefits and compensation strategies with financial goals and staff needs, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Stay informed of current market trends and incorporate relevant practices into Club operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Qualifications: Demonstrated integrity, honesty, and credibility with a commitment to the Club’s mission.
  • Excellent people skills with proven leadership in finance and accounting.
  • Experience Required: A minimum of 8-10 years of professional experience in financial management and accounting, including legal, audit, compliance, budget, and resource development.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, delegation, and management skills with a track record of effective team leadership.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (advanced Excel, PowerPoint, Word), POS, and HRIS platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MA or MBA is preferred.
  • CPA or CHAE certification is a plus.
  • Experience in non-profit and/or hospitality sectors is an advantage.
