We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Colocation Rack & Stack Technician to support installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of customer equipment within our data center facility located at 165 Halsey St, Newark, NJ.

This role is responsible for installing servers, networking hardware, and cabling infrastructure while ensuring proper documentation, labeling, and adherence to data center best practices. The technician will also assist with remote hands services and support operational tasks within a mission-critical environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Rack and install servers, switches, routers, firewalls, and storage equipment in customer cabinets and cages.
  • Install rails, shelves, and mounting hardware for IT equipment.
  • Perform structured cabling including Cat5e/Cat6 and fiber optic (LC/SC) connections.
  • Label and manage cables following proper cable management standards.
  • Connect redundant power feeds and PDUs.
  • Perform hardware replacements including drives, power supplies, memory, and network cards.
  • Respond to remote hands requests including console connections, reboots, and visual inspections.
  • Maintain rack elevations, asset tracking, and installation documentation.
  • Decommission and remove equipment as required.
  • Follow strict data center change control and security procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization within cabinets and colocation areas.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1–3 years experience in a data center, colocation facility, ISP, or IT infrastructure environment.
  • Experience installing servers and network hardware.
  • Familiarity with structured cabling and fiber optics.
  • Basic knowledge of networking hardware (switches, routers, firewalls).
  • Ability to read rack layouts and basic network diagrams.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CompTIA A+, Network+, or similar certifications.
  • Experience with Cisco, Juniper, Dell, HPE, or Supermicro hardware.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems and change management processes.
  • Experience providing remote hands services to colocation customers.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
  • Ability to install equipment in racks up to 7 feet high.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, or work in confined rack spaces for extended periods.

Work Environment

Secure carrier-hotel data center environment in downtown Newark.

May require after-hours maintenance windows or emergency response.

Must follow all data center safety and security policies.
