Go To Market Sales and Marketing Director
Job Description
🐘 THE LEARNING COMPANY IS HIRING: Go-to-Market Sales Director
Stanford Alumni Exclusive | Atlanta-Based (Remote Considered) | Base + Commission
I'm Robert Feagin (Stanford '97), and I've spent 26 years as a tutor — sitting across the table from over a thousand students, watching bright kids and loving families spend thousands on test prep that barely moves the needle. Not because the students aren't trying. Because the prep isn't trying hard enough.
So I built what I wished I could be for every student I've ever worked with.
The Learning Company (thelearningco.io) is an AI-powered adaptive learning platform that diagnoses a student's exact strengths and weaknesses across 8 SAT skill domains, builds a personalized curriculum targeting only their gaps, adjusts difficulty after every single answer, and is available 24/7/365 — with an AI avatar tutor the student customizes themselves. Our patent-pending Adaptive Learning Engine uses IRT and ELO-based estimation (the same statistical models used by the College Board), and our AI tutor coaches students through problems using Socratic reasoning, not answer-giving. Trademarks and patents on the technology are pending.
We're so confident in the technology that we offer outcome-based pricing: if the score doesn't go up, the family doesn't pay.
Our core platform MVP was built by a Harvard engineering team. Our development partner (Softensity, Atlanta) is building out five additional phases of advanced personalization, AI avatar integration, parent engagement tools, multilingual support, gamification, and ACT expansion. We are pre-revenue, founder-funded, preparing for a $750K seed raise at a $25MM pre-money valuation.
Now I need the person who turns this technology into revenue.
THE ROLE: Go-to-Market Sales Director
This is the first full-time hire at The Learning Company. You will own the entire revenue function — strategy, pipeline, process, and close. You report directly to the founder. There is no playbook. You are writing it.
What you'll do:
- Build and execute the go-to-market strategy across both B2B (schools, school districts, charter networks, tutoring companies, educational institutions) and B2C (parents, students) channels
- Sell directly — this is a player-coach role from day one. You're in the meetings, running the demos, writing the proposals, and closing the deals. The team you eventually build reports to you, but you sell first.
- Own the institutional sales pipeline: identify, qualify, demo, propose, negotiate, and close partnerships with private schools, public school districts, charter networks, professional tutoring services, and educational nonprofits across the Southeast and nationally
- Build and manage the B2C acquisition engine: paid ads (Google, Meta, TikTok), SEO/content marketing, email/SMS drip campaigns (ActiveCampaign + HubSpot), referral programs, and community-building
- Pioneer AI-native distribution: develop strategy for being discovered through LLMs and AI search (GEO — Generative Engine Optimization), not just traditional SEO. The next generation of customers will find us by asking an AI, not by Googling.
- Lead the agentification of sales and marketing processes: deploy AI agents for lead scoring, outreach personalization, meeting intelligence, proposal generation, and pipeline management. Our tech stack includes Claude Opus 4, HubSpot, Apollo.io, Instantly.ai, Recall.ai, Clay, Phantombuster, and Gamma Pro — you should know what these tools do and how to make them work together.
- Wear other hats. This is startup #1 employee territory. You'll contribute to product strategy, investor conversations, pricing decisions, partnership negotiations, and company culture. If the phrase "that's not my job" is in your vocabulary, this isn't your role.
What we're looking for:
- Stanford alumni (any school, any year)
- 3–5 years of experience in sales, marketing, business development, or growth — ideally in SaaS, EdTech, or a high-growth startup environment
- Demonstrated ability to sell into both institutions (B2B: long sales cycles, multiple stakeholders, procurement processes) and consumers (B2C: digital acquisition, conversion optimization, lifecycle marketing)
- Current, hands-on knowledge of AI-powered sales and marketing tools. Not "I've read about AI." More like "I've built automated outreach sequences using Clay + Instantly that generated $X pipeline in Y months."
- Comfort with ambiguity, speed, and building from zero. You've operated in an environment where the org chart is a Post-it note and the runway is visible. You thrived.
- Exceptional communication skills — written, verbal, and visual. You can pitch a guidance counselor at 10 AM, write ad copy at noon, and present to an investor at 3 PM.
- Genuine passion for education, student outcomes, and the belief that technology can democratize access to world-class learning
Compensation:
- Competitive base salary commensurate with experience
- Aggressive commission structure tied to revenue milestones — the upside is meaningful
- The chance to be employee #1 at a company with proprietary, patent-pending technology designed to become the most important education platform in the world
Location:
- Atlanta, Georgia preferred — our founder, development partner, and initial market are here. Buckhead is home base.
- Remote is acceptable for the right candidate, with regular travel to Atlanta expected.
WHY THIS MATTERS
The SAT prep industry charges families $5,000–$15,000 for a human tutor who teaches the same curriculum to every student, cancels when something comes up, and offers no guarantee the score will improve. We built the alternative: an AI that knows every student individually, adapts in real time, is available 24/7, and puts its revenue on the line that the score goes up.
This is not another test prep app. This is the beginning of a proprietary, patent-pending platform that will follow a learner from the SAT through college, into their career, and across their entire life. Think. Feel. Believe. Together.™ ...Learning Never Ends...™
If you're a Stanford alum who wants to be the GTM engine for the most ambitious AI education company launching in 2026 — and you have the skills, the drive, and the hustle to build a revenue machine from zero — I want to hear from you.
