Job Description
Position Overview
At Leidos, we are seeking a talented Principal Manufacturing Engineer (ME) to lead the concept development, planning, budgeting, and activation of a new defense manufacturing facility in Huntsville, AL. In this role, you will collaborate with diverse stakeholders, manage non‐recurring construction projects, design facility layouts, and support a major air defense program while upholding our commitment to doing the right thing for our customers, our people, and our community.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish the concept of operations for the facility.
- Determine work content and program timing for transferring work to the facility.
- Partner with Corporate Facilities to establish, monitor, and manage the non-recurring construction schedule.
- Develop the production floor layout and associated material flow.
- Define equipment/tooling requirements and collaborate with Manufacturing to develop budgets, spend plans, and acquisition schedules.
- Lead planning and execution of production readiness gate reviews.
- Coordinate with local representatives for on-site activation, staffing plans, and community engagement.
Required Qualifications
- BS in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline with a minimum of 8 years of experience, OR a Master’s degree with a minimum of 6 years of experience.
- Demonstrated technical experience in creating manufacturing plans including work location determination, equipment requirements, process definition, work area layout, tooling needs, takt time evaluation, and capacity planning.
- Proven experience managing complex projects covering scope baselining, budgeting, scheduling, and performance monitoring/reporting.
- Residency in North Alabama or willingness to relocate to the Huntsville – North Alabama, AL area.
- US Citizenship with possession (or eligibility) to obtain and maintain a Final Secret or Secret Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing site manufacturing plans for greenfield or brownfield sites.
- Background supporting the activation of greenfield or brownfield manufacturing facilities.
- Experience in building and leading a team of manufacturing engineers.
- Expertise in Lean principles, manufacturing metrics, and continuous improvement.
- Familiarity with Deltek Costpoint, Solumina MES, and Agile or Windchill PLM software is a plus.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
