Job Description
Position Overview
The City of Milwaukee is seeking a Marketing and Communications Coordinator. This exempt position is at the pleasure of the Commissioner of Health and involves collaborating with the Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) Graphic Designer to develop culturally and linguistically appropriate media content. As a grant-funded position, the role, responsibilities, and job functions are subject to grant guidelines and funding availability.
Compensation: The current salary range is $75,722 - $92,612 annually (with a residency incentive of $77,994 - $95,390 annually), with appointment above the minimum possible based upon experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate creation and development of communication materials including press releases, media advisories, correspondence, and reports related to grant activities.
- Assist with developing speeches, presentations, and marketing campaigns designed to address public health needs and promote grant milestones.
- Collaborate with senior management, community partners, and advertising agencies to effectively execute marketing strategies.
- Serve as the liaison for MHD staff and other department heads regarding announcements and public relations for grant-based initiatives.
- Represent the Milwaukee Health Department in public forums, media events, committees, and workgroups related to grant projects.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- At least one year of progressively responsible experience in journalism, communication, public or media relations.
- Valid driver's license at time of appointment and throughout employment.
- Willingness to work variable hours, including occasional evenings, weekends, and travel across Milwaukee.
Preferred Qualifications
- Registration as a Certified Public Health Professional.
