Job Description
Position Overview
The Lease Operator is responsible for operating power‐driven pumps and equipment that transfer oil, gas, and/or liquids from producing oil and gas wells. Working under broad supervision, the operator manages the daily operation of all producing wells on an assigned route, maximizes production, completes daily production reporting through internal computer applications, performs minor maintenance on equipment, and ensures all work complies with Company policies—including environmental, health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Observe pressure gauges and flow meters, and adjust valves to control pump speed, pressure, and flow rate.
- Transfer materials to and from storage tanks, processing tanks, and trucks.
- Pump crude oil from wells; transfer liquids by siphoning, determine density, record pumped quantities, and monitor storage tank inventories.
- Maintain pumps and lines by replacing filters and gaskets, tightening connections, and adjusting pumps.
- Connect pipelines between pumps and containers or storage tanks being filled or emptied.
- Collect samples for laboratory analysis.
- Monitor for spills and report any unusual occurrences to the Supervisor.
- Call repair crews as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- Vocational training and/or a College Degree is desirable.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years pumping experience preferred, but not required.
- Strong mathematical aptitude.
- Basic computer knowledge with the ability to use an iPad and smart phone.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to work with limited supervision.
- Valid Driver's License required.
- Willingness to work a rotating callout schedule including after-hours, weekends, and holidays with potential travel to a reporting location.
- Ability to work in extreme heat and cold, high noise levels, poor ventilation, and in areas with fumes and gases, while using required personal protective equipment and training.
- Physical capability to lift up to 75 lbs, carry items for at least 20 feet, negotiate ladders, and climb stairs.
- Manual dexterity to use hands for tasks such as reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Adequate vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
