Position Overview

The Mechanical Engineer will focus on the design and engineering of HVAC and mechanical utilities for new buildings, renovations, additions and processes. This role involves managing multiple complex tasks, directing team efforts, coordinating with architects, engineers, and vendors, and managing project budgets for small to medium projects. Locations: Atlanta, GA; Raleigh, NC; or Jacksonville, FL.
Key Responsibilities
- Design mechanical systems of intermediate complexity in conformance with code requirements and in coordination with other design disciplines.
- Manage multiple complex tasks, establish priorities, and direct the work of others, working independently or under the direction of a Lead Engineer or Project Manager.
- Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and designers to ensure a coordinated, constructible, and complete design.
- Develop narratives, reports, construction drawing packages, and write construction specifications for projects of intermediate complexity.
- Support construction activities including RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch list development, and progress reports.
- Plan and manage project mechanical design budgets on intermediate complexity projects.
- Assist with proposal development under the supervision of a Lead or Senior Engineer.
- Identify design requirements and translate them into project scope while documenting open issues and decisions.
- Conduct site walks and construction field surveys to identify non-compliant conditions.
- Develop internal mechanical design and engineering training presentations.
- Utilize platforms such as Microsoft Office and BIM software to execute project tasks.
- Attend professional development activities as required.
- Lead quality check efforts and drive overall project quality improvements.
- Provide mentorship to less experienced Mechanical Engineers and Designers.
- Lead systems design programming and master planning on projects with support from senior staff.
- Manage one or more projects simultaneously as directed by a Supervisor.
- Act as the Engineer-of-Record for small to medium projects when required.
Required Qualifications
- ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering (with a mechanical focus)
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
- Professional Engineer registration in good standing
- Experience working in an AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) firm
- Intermediate experience with performing engineering calculations and developing HVAC, mechanical utility, and piping system designs
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Life Sciences (Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Laboratory) or Food & Beverage industries
- Intermediate knowledge of GMP manufacturing environments
- Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and Bluebeam Revu
- LEED, WELL, or other sustainable design accreditation or equivalent sustainable design experience
- Experience applying mechanical, plumbing, fire, and building codes
- Familiarity with industry standards such as ASHRAE, SMACNA, ISPE, FDA, ISO, NFPA, OSHA, etc.
- Experience conducting and leading field surveys of existing conditions
- Intermediate experience in plumbing design
- Basic experience using Revit plugins such as Enscape and Unifi
- Basic experience building parametric workflows using Dynamo, Grasshopper, and/or Rhino within Revit
- Strong cross-discipline project team coordination skills
- Experience coordinating with construction trade partners, vendors, and manufacturers
- Basic troubleshooting skills for mechanical equipment and systems
