Job Description
Position Overview
The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) is an academic private health system focused on delivering compassionate, high quality care while driving innovation and discovery. We are seeking a dynamic member for our Advanced Data Science team to support our strategic priority of becoming a data-driven and outcomes-oriented organization. In this role, you will design and deploy advanced predictive and prescriptive analytic models, solve complex mathematical optimization problems, and collaborate with both clinical and business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Support analytic efforts designed around the organization's strategic priorities and clinical/business problems including operations, supply chain, human resources, and finance.
- Develop predictive (machine learning and deep learning) and prescriptive (mathematical optimization and simulation) analytic models to support clinical, operations, and business initiatives.
- Formulate and solve complex mathematical optimization problems using exact and heuristic approaches.
- Perform exploratory data analysis and advanced statistical analysis (e.g., regression, cluster analysis, factor analysis, ANOVA).
- Design and prototype new application functionality for analytic products.
- Deploy solutions that provide actionable insights and are integrated with application systems.
- Collaborate with the analytics team and clinical/business stakeholders to develop and test pilots in incubator settings.
- Perform statistical analysis to evaluate primary and secondary objectives of pilots.
- Support development of strategic, tactical, and operational presentations summarizing project results.
- Build and extend the analytics portfolio with robust documentation.
- Work collaboratively in a team to drive disruptive innovation including improvements in quality of care, clinical outcomes, cost reduction, and process efficiency.
- Assist leadership with strategies for scaling successful projects and enhancing analytics applications based on user feedback.
- Help disseminate success stories and lessons learned to boost analytics literacy and adoption across the organization.
- Utilize open source tools and in-house development to solve complex problems autonomously.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest literature in machine learning/AI, operations research, statistical modeling, and mathematical optimization.
- Travel domestically up to 5% as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Physics, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, or a related field.
- Two (2) years of relevant work experience in Machine Learning/AI, Statistics, or Operations Research.
- Experience programming with SQL, Python, and R.
- Expertise in developing and deploying predictive and prescriptive models, as well as formulating and solving mathematical (deterministic and stochastic) optimization problems and simulations.
- Proficiency in applying computational algorithms and statistical methods to healthcare data from sources such as electronic medical records, financial management, human resources, quality, and supply chain.
- Skilled in combining analytic methods with advanced data visualizations.
Benefits & Perks
- Compensation: $125,000 to $145,000 per year
- Benefits: Health, vision, dental, and life insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, paid time off, educational assistance, employee assistance program, and employee discounts.
