Job Description

Position Overview

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking a Human Resources and Recruitment Specialist (Open Rank, Entry – Senior HR Professional) for the Department of Surgery. This full-time, University Staff (non‑classified) role supports HR functions for the department and its 8 divisions—including Cardio Thoracic, GI Trauma and Endocrine, Plastic and Reconstructive, Surgical Oncology, Transplant, Pediatric, Vascular, and Urology—by dedicating 50% of the time to HR specialist duties and 50% to recruitment duties. The role requires close collaboration with multiple internal stakeholders including HR Program Manager, Employee Relations Program Manager, Director of Operations, and School of Medicine HR leadership.

Work is performed on a Hybrid schedule (2 days per week on campus with additional in‑person meetings as needed).

Key Responsibilities

Specialist Duties: 50%

  • Assist with faculty hiring and credentialing processes including creating requests for applications, packaging hiring paperwork, and managing credentialing timelines.
  • Process background checks, vacation payouts, funding distribution changes, secondary appointments, POI access requests, I9, and various HR transactions.
  • Serve as the payroll liaison and assist with processing the monthly payroll batch.
  • Utilize Human Capital Management (HCM) and Smartsheet to complete and track various HR tasks and processes.
  • Maintain faculty and staff files and provide HR guidance to various divisions while serving as a backup to the HR Specialist.

Recruitment Duties: 50%

  • Assist with University Staff position creation, recruitment, candidate sourcing, and hiring.
  • Review and evaluate job descriptions as well as assist with job level placement.
  • Process postings on CU Careers, various job boards, and assist with DOS LinkedIn management.
  • Coordinate interviews, serve on search committees, and provide interview coaching.
  • Create offer letters, perform background checks, process salary approvals, and complete the HCM hiring process.
  • Advise hiring managers on recruitment best practices while ensuring policy and legal compliance, and serve as a backup to the Recruitment Specialist.

Required Qualifications

  • Entry Level: Bachelor’s degree in business, higher education administration, social sciences, behavioral sciences or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Intermediate Level: Bachelor’s degree as noted above plus one (1) year of HR experience.
  • Senior Level: Bachelor’s degree as noted above plus two (2) years of HR experience.
  • Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an academic medical center.
  • Proficient in Human Capital Management (HCM), Smartsheet and CU Careers.
  • Background in recruitment, job evaluations, and candidate sourcing.

  • Compensation: Entry Level: $43,511 - $55,346; Intermediate Level: $47,350 - $60,230; Senior Level: $51,190 - $65,113. Overtime eligibility may apply.
