Job Description
Position Overview
As a Mid-Level Structural Design Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting all phases of construction projects, focusing on both the technical and collaborative aspects of structural engineering. Your role is pivotal in ensuring structural integrity and project success across power generation and industrial markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing structural designs – including analysis, research, drawing preparation, and system selection – for a range of projects in power generation and industrial markets.
- Applying industry and department standards to perform structural calculations and develop project specifications, drawings, and documentation.
- Understanding and exceeding the requirements of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts, client RFPs, and professional service agreements.
- Researching and evaluating new and emerging market opportunities, and adapting existing processes and workflows to meet unique project challenges.
- Collaborating closely with internal disciplines, construction partners, vendors, fabricators, and client representatives to resolve design and construction issues.
- Developing, monitoring, and updating project plans, schedules, staffing projections, and budgets, with reporting to project and department managers.
- Supporting department managers in achieving operational and performance goals.
- Ensuring risk mitigation strategies are in place to protect crew safety and uphold project deadlines.
- Upholding high standards of professionalism and maintaining effective communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Minimum of 5+ years of structural engineering/design experience, ideally including the design for power generation or industrial projects.
- Proficiency with engineering software such as SAP2000, SAFE, and Mathcad; strong ability to use spreadsheets, databases, and standard office applications.
- Working knowledge of engineering codes and standards including ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360, and IBC.
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple assignments to meet scheduled deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
- Ability and willingness to work onsite in the Kansas City metro area and adapt to changing deadlines, including occasional overtime or weekend work.
- Commitment to safety, risk mitigation, and adherence to all relevant protocols and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Advanced proficiency with SAP2000, SAFE, Mathcad, and MS Office Suite.
- Experience in the power industry or industrial markets.
- Demonstrated leadership potential and success as part of cross-functional project teams.
