Position Overview
Our client, a renowned leader in developing innovative digital solutions, is looking for a Principal UX/UI Designer to join their talented design team in Portland, Oregon, US. This role is pivotal in shaping the user experience and interface design of cutting-edge products, ensuring intuitive, engaging, and visually compelling interactions. The Principal UX/UI Designer will lead the design process from concept to final implementation, collaborating closely with product managers, engineers, and researchers. You will be instrumental in establishing design standards, mentoring junior designers, and driving user-centered design principles throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design of complex user interfaces and user experiences for web and mobile applications, ensuring usability, accessibility, and aesthetic appeal.
- Conduct user research, usability testing, persona development, and journey mapping to gain insights into user needs and behaviors.
- Translate user needs and business requirements into wireframes, prototypes, mockups, and high-fidelity visual designs.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive design systems, style guides, and UI component libraries for consistency and efficiency.
- Collaborate with product management and engineering teams to define product vision, features, and technical feasibility.
- Advocate for the user throughout the product development lifecycle by presenting design solutions and rationale to stakeholders.
- Mentor and guide junior and mid-level designers, providing constructive feedback and fostering professional growth.
- Stay updated on emerging design trends, tools, and technologies, incorporating them into the workflow.
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the product design function within the company.
- Conduct design critiques and reviews to ensure high-quality, cohesive design output.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Interaction Design, Graphic Design, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in UX/UI design with a strong portfolio showcasing complex digital products and services.
- Demonstrated experience in leading design initiatives for large-scale applications or platforms.
- Expert proficiency in industry-standard design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, InVision).
- Deep understanding of user-centered design principles, usability heuristics, accessibility standards (WCAG), and responsive design.
- Experience in developing and managing design systems.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Experience in leading design workshops and facilitating brainstorming sessions.
- Must be located in or willing to relocate to Portland, Oregon, US with a hybrid work arrangement.
