Position Overview
Join our team of leaders in electrical power system maintenance, repair, testing, engineering, and training. Due to continued growth, Shermco Industries – accredited by NETA and home to one of the largest field services divisions in the industry – is seeking an experienced NETA Field Service Technician, Senior.
Key Responsibilities
- Travel to customer sites (industrial & commercial) to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up, and collect data of low, medium and high voltage (480 Volt to 600 kV) electrical systems.
- Able to travel to customer job sites across the state and bordering states.
- Perform instrument transformer tests.
- Conduct power transformer testing (Doble, TTR, Insulation Resistance, etc.).
- Preferred: Proficient in testing both electro-mechanical and solid-state relays.
- Execute cable testing (Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot).
- Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches.
- Test low, medium, and high voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.
- Perform moderately complex relay calibration and power metering.
- Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond promptly to customer emergencies.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree from an accredited 2-year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls, or a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited), or equivalent military training (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or NAVY Seabee).
- NETA Certification (III or IV) or similar desired; Electrician license preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience performing switchgear testing and troubleshooting.
- Good PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Excel (experience with PowerDB is a plus).
- Ability to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
- Prefer OSHA 30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, and CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training; training can be provided by Shermco.
- Must be able to drive locally/regionally on a daily basis and be available for periodic overnight travel.
- Pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests.
- Pass a pre-employment criminal background check; employment is contingent on acceptable results from background and drug/alcohol screening.
- Ability to crawl, climb, stand, and lift up to 100 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Pass a fit-for-duty physical exam.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.
- Availability for regular overnight domestic travel and occasional international travel (U.S. passport & TWIC card a plus).
- Willingness to work flexible hours, overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays, and nights.
- Eligibility to work in the U.S. without employer-sponsored visa (work permit required).
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
Benefits & Perks
- Compensation: USD $46.83 - USD $72.93 /Hr.
