Job Description

Position Overview

The BD & Marketing Manager supports the business development and marketing priorities for the Intellectual Property and Technology practice group at DLA Piper. Working closely with practice group leaders and team members across the firm, this role drives client-focused initiatives, go-to-market campaigns, and the development of high-quality materials. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong project coordination, writing, and communication skills who is comfortable managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support practice group and subgroup leaders in executing BD and marketing initiatives while tracking progress.
  • Monitor IP law developments, patent, trademark and copyright trends, and sector changes to identify client outreach opportunities.
  • Develop an understanding of the practice group’s strengths to inform creation of client-facing materials and positioning.
  • Coordinate with senior team members on practice-specific campaigns and projects, including client targeting and lead tracking using business intelligence tools.
  • Assist in pitch and proposal development, event planning, and sponsorships aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Support cross-functional projects such as CRM management, experience management, client onboarding, and BD onboarding of new hires.
  • Contribute to department-wide initiatives including CRM adoption, onboarding, and the integration of marketing technologies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of Sales/Marketing experience in a professional services environment.
  • Proven project coordination, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in law firm or professional services marketing, particularly with litigation or dispute practices.
  • Familiarity with CRM platforms, marketing technologies, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • A proactive, collaborative mindset with strong writing, editing, and presentation skills.

  • Compensation Range: $133,625 - $202,352 per year based on geographic market location, experience, and overall qualifications.
