JOB OVERVIEW:

The Construction Engineer Intern position provides hands-on, real-world experience directly aligned with a full-time career in construction engineering. Interns will gain exposure to key construction operations and project management functions while supporting active job sites and project teams. Responsibilities may include reviewing shop drawings and submittals, assisting with schedules and takeoffs, supporting pay requests and contract changes, and maintaining project documentation.

This is a temporary, full-time internship for Summer 2026, typically running approximately May through August, with a 40-hour work week (Monday–Friday). Work schedules and shifts may vary based on project needs.

  • HEAVY CIVIL DIVISION: Roads, bridges, infrastructure.
  • BUILDING DIVISION: Specializing in vertical and large commercial/residential structures.
  • COMMERCIAL DIVISION: Commercial/Residential buildings and special purpose complexes.
  • POWER & INDUSTRIAL DIVISION: Factories/Utility structures.
  • WATERFRONT & FOUNDATIONS DIVISION: Harbors, shoreline, and foundations.
  • PRECONSTRUCTION/ESTIMATING: Evaluate design criteria during the planning and design phase and identify the most cost-effective means.

Build the Structures Statewide: Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Big Island.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support administrative and field construction activities as assigned by the project team
  • Assist with reviewing proposals, specifications, and construction drawings
  • Perform material takeoffs and assist with cost estimates
  • Support subcontractor coordination and vendor communication
  • Learn to track costs, materials, and equipment usage
  • Assist with project planning, scheduling, and progress tracking
  • Maintain accurate project records related to job progress, costs, and materials
  • Review plans and specifications to determine material requirements and pricing
  • Identify issues and assist in recommending solutions or alternatives
  • Follow and support all safety programs and site requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • Strong interest in and commitment to the construction industry
  • Willingness to learn, adaptable, and open-minded
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Effective communicator and team-oriented mindset
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred
  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.

Salary Range: $20.00 - $26.00/hour (non-exempt)
