Job Description

Position Overview

The Medication Technician is responsible for assuring that residents’ activities of daily living and medication needs are met in a safe, secure, and clean environment while upholding core values – Service, Integrity, Dignity, Excellence, and Teamwork. This position requires working every weekend, being available at least 3 days per week, and being on-call when needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verifies identity of the resident receiving medication, checks the MAR to ensure the correct medication is given, and records the time of administration or self-administration on specified forms or records.
  • Supervises the self-administration of medications by presenting medication to the resident and observing ingestion or other application, or administers medication to ensure proper adherence to directions.
  • Obtains and records resident's vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rates) and weight as directed.
  • Observes residents to detect responses to medications and reports or notifies designated personnel of any unexpected reactions.
  • Performs weekly medication cart audits.
  • Contacts the pharmacy and/or residents’ family for medication refills in a timely manner.
  • Ensures all residents registered with the Tena (incontinence) program have supplies stocked in their apartments.
  • Answers residents' call signals to determine their needs in accordance with Sodalis Senior Living standards.
  • Encourages residents to do things independently to retain self-esteem and dignity.
  • Maintains resident safety by removing hazards from rooms, encouraging the use of ambulatory devices, and providing assistance during bathing, dressing, and walking as necessary.
  • Observes resident privacy by knocking before entering rooms and ensuring privacy during bathing and dressing.
  • Assures resident hygiene by following scheduled baths or sponge baths as needed to keep residents clean and odor-free.
  • Assists residents with dressing, toileting, ambulation, and transferring as needed.
  • Provides verbal reminders for meals, activities, bedtime, and more.
  • Monitors residents for changes in condition and reports any unusual occurrences to the Health & Wellness Director or supervisor.
  • Completes incident reports accurately for any unusual events or changes in condition.
  • Assists with laundry by sorting, washing, and hanging or folding clothes as per manufacturer’s suggestions.
  • Supports meal service including table setting, serving, refilling, and clearing dishes, as well as bussing tables after meals.
  • Provides miscellaneous assistance such as helping residents reach items, locate lost items, or offering redirection as needed.
  • Assists the housekeeper by keeping resident rooms and common areas clean and clutter-free, including making beds and emptying trash containers.
  • Completes daily care tracking to ensure all assigned duties are performed.
  • Encourages and escorts residents to participate in activities of their choice.
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance as scheduled and attends all in-services.
  • Assists in training new associates as assigned.
  • Demonstrates full knowledge of fire evacuation and disaster policies, and participates in drills.
  • Adheres to compliance and ethics program policies and completes all mandatory compliance, HIPAA, state, and federal regulatory training.
  • Maintains confidentiality and reports any abuse or neglect of residents as required by law.
  • Must be able to lift more than 50 lbs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the success of Sodalis Senior Living and the well-being of its residents.

Required Qualifications

  • 1 year(s) of medication administration experience
  • Med Tech Certification
