Job Description

Position Overview

At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility by creating vehicles and experiences that are felt as well as seen. As the Vehicle Dynamics Simulation Engineer, you will lead the design and development of components and subsystems that critically impact vehicle dynamics performance and structural loads. Leveraging advanced virtual simulation tools and CI/CD automation, you will drive innovation and integration across vehicle dynamics and related disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Optimize suspension and steering kinematics and compliance.
  • Virtually integrate chassis tuning parts to meet ride, handling, and steering targets.
  • Collaborate to optimize structure and manage loads at key interfaces.
  • Integrate active control systems into performance simulations.
  • Develop and maintain the cross-functional vehicle dynamics master model framework and co-simulation packages.
  • Utilize data management tools to integrate 1D data and control systems into simulation workflows.
  • Continuously improve the fidelity of chassis subsystems and full vehicle models.
  • Advance virtual development by creating new load cases and collaborating with test teams to reduce reliance on hardware-based methods.
  • Work effectively across functions and cultures to build strong partnerships.
  • Communicate, influence, and motivate teams to deliver world-class designs and integration.
  • Mentor and coach team members, providing guidance and support.
  • Influence without direct authority, manage ambiguity, and resolve conflicts to achieve goals.
  • Promote GM values and make customer-focused decisions.
  • Collaborate with global partners to enhance product design and simulation capabilities.
  • Demonstrate ownership and strategic thinking.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Math, Science, or a closely related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in the automotive, aircraft, construction, or related industries.
  • Experience applying computational methods to solve engineering challenges.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as MATLAB or Python to automate and analyze simulations.
  • Strong team collaboration skills with an ability to balance technical theory and practical limitations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Creative and independent thinking.
  • Note: This job is not eligible for relocation benefits; relocation costs are the responsibility of the selected candidate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Software, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Familiarity with multibody and/or controls integration CAE tools (e.g., Simpack, ADAMS, MotionView, Carsim, Carmaker, Matlab/Simulink, dSpace VEOS, Github).
  • Advanced project or thesis work in vehicle dynamics or multibody dynamics modeling.
  • Practical automotive experience, including building, restoring, or modifying vehicles and participation in performance driving schools.
  • Participation in automotive teams such as Mini-Baja, Formula SAE, PACE, or Eco-Car.
