This position is full-time (40 hours/week) Monday-Friday during normal business hours, with occasional overtime as needed. You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute from anywhere within the U.S.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify appropriate assignment of ICD-10 Codes, CPT and modifiers for facility services while adhering to official coding guidelines and established client guidelines.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge in all facility outpatient coding types: Ancillary, Emergency, Same Day Surgery, and Observation.
  • Abstract additional data elements during the chart review process when necessary.
  • Adhere to the ethical coding standards established by AAPC and/or AHIMA.
  • Maintain required levels of performance in both coding quality and productivity as established by Optum.
  • Query physicians when appropriate.
  • Keep coding knowledge up-to-date by reviewing materials and participating in department meetings and educational events.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as identified by the manager.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher).
  • Professional coder certification with credentialing from AHIMA and/or AAPC (CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-H/COC, CIC, CCS-P, CPC), maintained annually.
  • 3+ years of experience with ICD-10, CPT, facility charging, and modifiers.
  • 3+ years of experience in outpatient surgery coding in a facility setting.
  • Intermediate experience working with a PC in a Windows environment, including Microsoft Excel and various EMR systems.
  • Ability to flex and float to multiple facilities as directed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to work at least one weekend day, holidays, and overtime when there is a business need.
