Position Overview

Mecklenburg County Government is seeking an Accountant III for the Department of Financial Services – the team that handles capital and debt planning, investments, accounting, payroll, grant management, and payables. Under minimal supervision, you will perform professional and complex accounting work by establishing and maintaining financial records including budgets, expenditures, and revenues, helping provide a community of pride and choice for people to live, learn, work, and recreate.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with assigned department(s) to prepare the annually adopted budget as directed by the Office of Management and Budget.
- Lead budget meetings and prepare detailed analyses supporting budget decisions.
- Review and analyze general ledger reports and meet monthly with program managers.
- Prepare various financial reports, reconciliations, work papers, and projections.
- Oversee the entry of budget requests into the system and resolve complex reconciliations and account analysis problems.
- Communicate results internally and provide technical support in policies, procedures, and financial standards.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of four years of experience in Accounting or Finance.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- May require a North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Local government experience.
Benefits & Perks
- Salary Range: $69,389 - $91,072
- Exempt Position: Pay rates are determined by education, skill, experience level, and internal equity.
