Job Description

Position Overview

At Boeing, we innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. The Boeing Safety, Security, and Airworthiness (SS&A) organization is seeking an Entry Level (Level 1) or Associate (Level 2) Airplane Safety Engineer to join their Airplane Safety Engineering Team within Enterprise Safety Mission Assurance in Everett, WA. In this role, you will work cross functionally to conduct comprehensive airplane safety analyses, ensuring regulatory compliance, design integrity and effective integration of complex aerospace systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute by documenting safety analysis, hazard mitigation, validation, and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standards.
  • Execute airplane level analyses within the Preliminary Aircraft Safety Assessment and Aircraft Safety Assessment (including techniques like Aircraft Functional Hazard Assessment (AFHA), Combined Functional Failure Effects (CoFFE), Multi-Functional Fault Tree Analysis (MFTA), and others).
  • Provide safety design and analysis expertise to program stakeholders and leadership.
  • Validate and verify airplane level safety requirements.
  • Develop certification strategies for addressing systems and airplane level safety issues.
  • Represent the Airplane Safety Engineering team in design trade studies, coordination of safety analyses, and functional integration assessments.
  • Ensure adequate redundancy and physical separation of critical systems.
  • Lead airplane level safety analyses such as Runway Excursion or Airplane Common Mode to ensure integration across multiple functional systems.
  • Utilize Model Based System Engineering tools to analyze architectures/designs and develop safety deliverables.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 1+ years of experience in airplane systems design, analysis, or systems integration (e.g., flight controls, hydraulics, avionics, fuels, etc.). For Level 2 candidates, 2+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. (This may also be fulfilled by an aerospace/mechanical/systems engineering capstone project, research, internship, or co-op.)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with large engineering teams.
  • Intrinsic aptitude for taking initiative and leading cross-functional teams and complex projects.
  • Proven ability to take ownership of work activities to ensure they are completed accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience performing and/or reviewing system safety analyses or studies.
  • 1+ years of experience with commercial airplane certification, including participation in regulator-facing forums.
  • Working knowledge (1+ years) of Functional Hazard Analyses (FHA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Particular Risk Assessment (PRA), Fault Trees Analysis (FTA), and/or System Safety Assessments (SSA).
  • Experience in developing or applying aviation-related system safety analysis methods, such as System Safety Risk Assessments, Fault Tree Analysis, or Functional Hazard Assessment.
  • Operational experience and/or a Pilot’s license.
  • Experience in solving complex, ambiguous engineering problems within an aerospace design environment.
  • Familiarity with 14CFR Part 25.1309, SAE ARP-4754, and SAE ARP-4761.

  • Salary: Entry Level (Level 1): $76,500 - $103,500; Associate (Level 2): $94,350 - $127,650
