We are seeking a Research Technician – Vehicle to support our electronics-based research and development lab at our Warren facility. In this role, you will plan, develop, and assemble vehicle and equipment test setups; evaluate test results; and investigate mechanical and electrical operational issues in products and components to recommend effective corrective actions that improve performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply electronics theory and principles of operation of electrical, electro-mechanical, and mechanical systems and sub-systems for research vehicle builds.
- Troubleshoot circuits, sensors, transducers, motors, actuators, etc., commonly used in a laboratory environment.
- Read and understand technical data, electrical diagrams, and schematics, and design and fabricate unique test instrumentation for the research laboratory.
- Create research vehicle builds by manufacturing wiring harnesses, building custom test fixture boxes, and utilizing 3D Printing for hardware mounts.
- Utilize vehicle software test equipment for diagnostics, troubleshooting, automated testing, and data logging.
- Operate general machine shop and material fabrication tools following all safe operating procedures.
- Complete assignments according to work requests, ensuring timely delivery and high quality.
- Adhere to all GM safety standards.
- Create accurate, complete documentation associated with task execution.
- Perform physical tasks common to the position.
- Assist with problem solving and creation of task instructions as requested.
- Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in electronics, instrumentation, automotive field, electronics technology, or engineering technology and/or 3+ years of relevant work experience in a research laboratory test environment or as an instrumentation service technician.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across diverse teams.

- Initiative to stay abreast of new technologies and competitive products.
- Demonstrated ability to use data-driven problem solving techniques in a fast-changing test environment.
- Ability to travel occasionally to support R&D facilities in Milford, MI or Pontiac, MI as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or 7+ years of relevant work experience.
- Experience with vehicle software specific tools (e.g. neoVI Fire 2, VSpy3, Vehicle Verification Tool, DPS).
- Familiarity with the Arduino development environment (IDE) and experience utilizing Python or C++.
