Data Scientist Intern

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Data Scientist Intern to join American Electric Power (AEP). This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands‐on experience in data analysis, modeling, and interpretation within a dynamic environment. The role is onsite in Columbus, Ohio – a city known for its vibrant cultural scene, parks, dining, shopping, sports and exciting local events.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in collecting, cleaning, and analyzing large datasets to extract meaningful insights.
• Develop and implement statistical models and machine learning algorithms.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify data‐driven solutions to business challenges.
• Visualize data and present findings to stakeholders using tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
• Document processes and methodologies for future reference.

Required Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Proficient in programming languages such as Python or R.
• Familiarity with data manipulation libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy) and machine learning frameworks (e.g., Scikit-learn, TensorFlow).
• Strong understanding of statistical concepts and data analysis techniques.
• Excellent communication skills with an ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Must have completed at least your sophomore year with an expected graduation date of December 2026 or later.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• This position is not eligible for sponsorship, OPT, or CPT.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with SQL for database management.
• Knowledge of data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI.
• Previous internship or project experience in data analysis or related fields.
