Job Description

Position Overview

First Tee—Oakland, established in 2021, supports underserved youth in the Oakland Unified School District. Through the game of golf, the program develops the skills and competencies necessary to empower youth and help them become contributing adults. Trained coaches create evidence-based learning experiences that enable youth to feel safe, included, and empowered.

The role of Executive Director (ED) is to lead all efforts in achieving our vision of providing opportunity through positive life-changing experiences. As the primary spokesperson, the ED oversees fundraising, operations, and staff supervision, while ensuring the organization remains fiscally sound and meets the evolving needs of its community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish a clear vision for the organization’s growth and expansion and guide programs that align with this vision.
  • Initiate and strengthen relationships and collaborations with organizations and leaders connected to our mission.
  • Work with the board and staff to develop and implement policies approved by the Board of Directors.
  • Drive the development and implementation of the strategic plan and hold the leadership team accountable for its success.
  • Ensure professional and efficient day-to-day operations through effective management.
  • Provide fiscal management by developing financial plans, monitoring budgets, and maintaining strict financial controls.
  • Collaborate with the board to set strategy, policies, and goals, and support their recruitment and engagement efforts.
  • Establish and maintain transparent communication with the Board regarding financial and programmatic metrics.
  • Engage board members in donor cultivation and stewardship efforts.

Required Qualifications

  • Executive, non-profit philanthropic experience with a track record in coordinating and implementing integrated fundraising strategies including grants, proposals, events, major gifts, campaigns, donor relationships, and planned giving.
  • Extensive experience in fiscal management, including handling profit and loss statements, budgeting, and financial controls.
  • Proven management skills of staff, volunteers, and partner alliances at multiple levels.
  • A confident strategic thinker driven by data analytics and context to make informed decisions.
  • Excellent, transparent, and inclusive communication skills with a commitment to equitable treatment.
  • A well-organized, energetic leader who upholds ethical standards and leads by example.
  • A lifelong learner dedicated to personal and professional development for self and team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Passionate youth development ambassador with experience promoting access to programs for youth, families, and allied partners.
  • Prior direct experience with youth development programming.
  • General knowledge of sports and an enthusiasm for golf.
  • Established relationships and familiarity with First Tee and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary Range: $120,000 - $150,000 with up to 10% bonus target
  • Employment Type: Full-time, Exempt
