Position Overview
A rewarding career opportunity as an Inpatient Facility/HIMS Certified Medical CODER QUALITY ASSOCIATE – Remote at Banner Health. In this role, you will interpret clinical documentation to ensure accurate and compliant coding in an acute care environment. Leverage your 3-5+ years of inpatient coding experience and certification (CCS, CPC, CCS-P, RHIT or RHIA) to drive quality improvements in the IP Facility Coding department. Key Responsibilities
- Provide coding and guidance for non-standard billing to ensure accurate reimbursement under Medicare Severity Adjusted System and Ambulatory Payment Classification.
- Review medical records and perform a “Second Look” at clinical documentation to ensure coding accuracy and compliance.
- Assist in maintaining consistency in coding practices, ethical coding compliance, and identifying training needs.
- Act as a knowledge resource for internal teams and participate in company-wide quality initiatives and audits.
- Perform ongoing audits/reviews of inpatient and outpatient records and track monthly reports for revenue enhancement opportunities.
- Collaborate with medical staff and quality management to align documentation with billing codes prior to claim submission.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or a related field.
- Active certification as Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), CCS-P, RHIT or RHIA.
- 3-5+ years of progressively responsible acute care coding experience, including 2-3 years in CMS HCC Risk Adjustment methodologies.
- Thorough knowledge of ICD/DRG and CPT coding principles, medical terminology, anatomy, and clinical documentation conventions.
- Proficiency with coding software, electronic medical records, and strong communication skills.
