Position Overview
The Baltimore Orioles, a storied Major League Baseball franchise in Baltimore, MD, is entering an exciting chapter under new leadership. We are seeking a Director of Business Analytics to drive data‐driven decision-making, streamline our data platforms, and support transformational strategies that enhance revenue growth, fan engagement, and operational effectiveness both on and off the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Shape the Game Plan (Data Strategy and Roadmap): Partner with business stakeholders to develop and execute a comprehensive data roadmap focused on establishing a single source of truth, enabling data-driven decision-making, and improving organizational transparency.
- Assess and evolve the Orioles' data tech stack—including CRM, integrated data warehouse (Ticketing, Concessions, Marketing), etc.—to enhance capabilities and efficiency.
- Ensure data infrastructure, tools, and processes comply with MLB data governance and privacy policies.
- Guide Big Decisions (Analytics and Insights): Design and deliver executive dashboards and reports that track KPIs, lead predictive modeling efforts for strategic decisions, and execute high-impact analyses across Ticketing, Concessions & Retail, and Marketing.
- Support Sponsorship initiatives by conducting valuation analyses, consumer and brand research, and performance tracking.
- Strengthen Collaboration, Efficiency, and Impact: Standardize reporting frameworks and partner with Strategy to transform data into actionable business insights.
- Lead and Inspire the Team: Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of technical specialists while fostering a culture of analytical excellence and curiosity.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, etc.); master’s degree preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in data analytics, data science, or data engineering, preferably in Sports and/or Media & Entertainment.
- Exceptional ability to distill and interpret raw data into creative, practical, and actionable insights for diverse audiences.
- Experience building and managing a robust data vendor stack to enhance data utilization.
- Solid foundation in data governance, data warehousing, and ETL processes.
- Hands-on experience with developing and implementing predictive models using R, Python, and SQL.
- Expert knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) with a track record of developing clear and effective dashboard suites.
- Impeccable attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage complex projects in ambiguous environments.
Benefits & Perks
- Compensation: $175,000-$210,000 annually plus bonus opportunity, in accordance with the Maryland Equal Pay for Equal Work - Wage Range Transparency law.
