Position Overview
The County of Riverside’s Transportation Department is seeking dynamic individuals for multiple opportunities as an Engineering Aide or Technician I/II within the Traffic Engineering division. In these roles, you will perform traffic studies, establish speed limits, manage traffic counts and investigations, deploy the department’s radar trailer for speed checks, prepare engineering maps and plans, and participate in both field and office work. This position requires outdoor work and offers opportunities for growth in civil, transportation, or traffic engineering.
As part of a large team that plans, designs, builds, and maintains roads, bridges, and transportation facilities within County Riverside, you will have a direct impact on public safety and mobility. Reporting to a supervisory or management position, you will operate under direct supervision while building expertise to advance in your career.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct traffic studies, speed investigations, and accident analysis, including the use of mobile radar feedback trailers.
- Perform limited roadway design, prepare engineering maps and geometric alignment, and draft cross-sectional and profile drawings.
- Manage and operate mapping processes via manual or computer-aided techniques, including data digitization and plotting.
- Inspect public works projects and coordinate traffic census programs, ensuring compliance with plans and specifications.
- Compile, interpret, and present traffic and transportation data in comprehensive reports and diagrams.
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in sub-professional civil, transportation, or traffic engineering work.
- Demonstrated ability to perform engineering computations, drafting, and report preparation.
- Familiarity with mapping software such as ArcGIS and drafting software like MicroStation.
- Possession of a valid California Driver’s license at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in civil, transportation, or traffic engineering projects with hands-on field work.
- Prior experience with computer aided mapping and drafting techniques.
- A background in managing public works or traffic control projects is an asset.
