Position Overview
Looking for an exciting career opportunity? The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is seeking motivated entry-level engineers for the Engineer Development Program (EDP), an entry-level rotational program that prepares you for a challenging career at MDOT. You will contribute to the safety, quality, and longevity of Michigan’s roadway network through assignments that include road and bridge design, construction, traffic safety, operations, maintenance, geotechnical investigations, materials testing, and surveys. The program is designed to provide exposure to multiple technical areas under the guidance of a mentor.
The Salary range reflects MDOT’s scale from the entry (Transportation Engineer 9) to experienced (P11) level, based on education and experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in road and bridge design projects.
- Assist in construction oversight, traffic safety, and operations.
- Gain exposure to maintenance, geotechnical investigations, materials testing, and surveys.
- Engage in rotational assignments under the guidance of an experienced mentor.
- Contribute to enhancing the overall safety and quality of Michigan’s transportation system.
Required Qualifications
- Possession of a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering by June 1, 2026.
- Entry-level experience as a Transportation Engineer 9 (no specific amount required).
- Valid driver's license and submission of a detailed resume.
- Ability to provide official college transcripts and/or foreign degree evaluation, if applicable.
- Willingness to meet pre-employment requirements, including drug tests, physicals, and background checks.
