Job Description

Position Overview

The GIS Specialist is responsible for creating and maintaining spatial data and linkages within an enterprise GIS environment. Work includes digitizing paper-based datasets, geocoding, interpreting surveys and building plans, reading spatial boundary descriptions, designing and creating GIS databases, and interpreting remotely sensed imagery for cartography and related tasks. This is an original entrance examination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creating and maintaining spatial data and database linkages.
  • Digitizing paper-based datasets and geocoding location data.
  • Interpreting surveys, building plans, and spatial boundary descriptions.
  • Designing and building GIS databases.
  • Interpreting remotely sensed imagery and performing cartographic tasks.

Required Qualifications

  • EITHER: A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems (CIS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or a related field with at least fifteen (15) semester hours in GIS and one (1) year of progressively responsible experience in GIS support, design, and implementation involving Esri, QGIS, CAD, and/or mobile device applications.
  • OR: Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in GIS support, design, and implementation involving Esri, QGIS, CAD, and/or mobile device applications.
  • Must provide original documents of qualifying credentials upon hire.
  • Must successfully complete background investigations, substance abuse screenings, and required medical examinations.
