Location: Strip District, Pittsburgh, PA – Onsite 3-5 days/week • Reports To: Director of Hardware Engineering • Work Model: Hybrid. Flexible with a minimum of 3 days/week onsite.
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer who will be responsible for the design and implementation of electronic systems and modules for current and next-generation robotic solutions. In this role, you will provide technical leadership on a range of internal and external projects, overseeing specification, design, development, testing, and transfer to manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical hardware solutions; drive design decisions across analog, digital, power, safety, and communication domains.
- Own the full lifecycle of electrical subsystem development: requirements, architecture, schematic design, layout, DFM/DFT, verification, and transfer to manufacturing.
- Plan and lead verification and validation efforts for electrical systems.
- Translate higher-level product goals into detailed electrical constraints, specifications, and design control documents.
- Act as a primary liaison with external design partners by defining scopes, negotiating technical aspects of statements of work, reviewing design proposals, and managing requirements.
- Lead the creation of Design Control documents, including DFMEA, interface control documents, and system-level schematics to meet product requirements and ensure long-term maintainability.
- Coordinate with leadership, program management, and cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of product development activities.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and service teams to troubleshoot issues and analyze data to continuously improve product reliability, including organizing root cause analyses.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in electrical design within electromechanical systems, consumer/industrial electronics, or a similar background.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate teams as a technical lead.
- Experience with PCB design (Altium preferred), embedded systems, and electromechanical integration.
- Fluency in autonomous systems including various 3D sensor modalities, power architecture, safety concepts, time synchronization protocols, and real-time communication.
- Strong skills in electrical analysis, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with Linux, Windows, and various microcontroller IDEs and tools.
- Experience with high-speed communication interfaces such as CAN/FD, USB, PCIe, Ethernet, I2C, and SPI.
- Knowledge of various battery chemistries and their application in mobile or portable platforms.
- Experience with EMC testing, mitigation techniques, and certification processes.
- Familiarity with developing, testing, or modifying embedded firmware on various microcontrollers in C, with knowledge of ARM architectures considered a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proven experience in working with external vendors and design/fabrication contractors.
