Job Description

Position Overview

This full-time role leads day-to-day cybersecurity operations, compliance tracking, and incident response under the direction of the Executive Director of Technology and Assistant Director of Technology. The candidate will work in person and be responsible for coordinating security strategies, incident management, and compliance with frameworks such as the Texas Cybersecurity Framework (TCF), FERPA, and CIPA. Compensation: $72,207.00 - $104,119.00 per year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops and carries out information security plans and policies.
  • Develops strategies to respond to and recover from a security breach.
  • Develops or implements open-source/third-party tools to assist in the detection, prevention, and analysis of security threats.
  • Provides awareness training for district employees on information security standards, policies, and best practices.
  • Coordinates all security awareness, training, and discussions with district departments.
  • Advises departments and leadership on cybersecurity risks, acceptable use decisions, and secure technology adoption.
  • Coordinates cybersecurity compliance efforts with TCF, FERPA, CIPA, and other applicable requirements.
  • Installs and oversees firewalls, data encryption, and other security products and procedures.
  • Conducts periodic scheduled network scans to identify vulnerabilities.
  • Performs penetration testing to simulate attacks and identify exploitable weaknesses.
  • Reviews findings with supervisors to determine acceptable levels of risk.
  • Monitors networks and systems for security breaches using intrusion detection software.
  • Investigates security breaches and leads incident response to minimize impact and conduct forensic investigations.
  • Maintains cybersecurity documentation and evidence repositories for audits, internal reviews, and compliance assessments.
  • Installs and maintains the approved district Internet Web Filtering solution.
  • Completes integration with security aspects of all IT systems, including SCCM, AD, O365, VMWare, cloud services, Cisco hardware/software, and other information systems.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Five or more years in a technical role or related field.
  • At least one foundational security certification (e.g., Security+, GSEC, or CySA+) is required.
  • Proven experience in cybersecurity operations, compliance tracking, and incident response.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced IT security certification (CISSP, CISM, or CISA) is preferred.
  • Experience in designing secure networks, systems, and application architectures.
  • Familiarity with cloud services, virtualization, and automated security testing tools.
