Key Responsibilities

  • Assist hospice patients with personal care, including changing bedding, clothing, bathing, and maintaining hygienic routines (eg, brushing teeth, washing hair, and keeping wound dressings clean and dry).
  • Guide patients’ family members on performing basic health‐care routines to care for their terminally ill relatives.
  • Consult regularly with supervising registered nurses to report patient progress and address the evolving needs of patients and families.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have at least 1 year of full‐time experience in direct client care in an institutional setting (hospital or nursing facility) or 1 year of experience within the last 5 years in a home health or hospice setting.
  • Must have satisfactorily completed a training and competency evaluation program that complies with federal and state regulations.
  • Must be registered and listed in good standing on the Nurse Aide Registry in the state of employment.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license, automobile insurance, and have reliable transportation.
  • Must have the ability to recognize the needs of people, maintain good relationships, and effectively communicate observations to supervisors.
