Job Description

Position Overview

The Medical Assistant (Credentialed/Certified) at MSHC (Davis Health & Wellness Center) supports nurse practitioner practice in an outpatient setting under the direction of an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. The role entails performing a blend of clinical and clerical tasks—including obtaining vital signs, assisting with patient screenings and basic diagnostic tests, maintaining electronic health records, and managing appointment scheduling—to ensure efficient patient care. This position is based at the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System in Chicago, IL USA. Salary: $25.26 - 33.35 per Hourly Wage. Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM, Thursday 9:30AM - 6:00PM. Location: Chicago, IL USA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform direct patient care tasks such as obtaining vital signs, conducting patient screenings, and administering approved injections and basic tests (e.g., EKG, spirometry, pulse oximetry).
  • Assist medical and nursing staff with diagnostic/therapeutic procedures, including preparation for tests and patient transport.
  • Manage indirect patient care tasks by processing specimens, documenting test results, and ensuring quality control on equipment.
  • Handle clerical duties such as maintaining patient records in the Electronic Health Records system, scheduling appointments, checking patients in and out, and processing cash payments.
  • Participate in initiatives for EHR improvement and comply with safety and infection control policies.

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Current/valid certification as a Certified Medical Assistant from an approved certifying board (e.g., AAMA, AMT, NCCTI, or NHA).
  • Current/valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support CPR Certification.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish.

  • 1 year of phlebotomy experience.
