Job Description

Position Overview

This position is responsible for the security of Florida State University's main campus with a specific focus on the FSU President's House, facilities/grounds, and adjacent areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Using various patrol methods, this position will observe and analyze any suspicious persons and incidents on or adjacent to FSU properties. Assist staff, Police, and emergency personnel during emergency/disruptive situations.
  • Responsible to challenge or report suspicious persons to FSUPD and maintain visual contact and assist in coordinating police response, as well as report any facility or property safety/security concerns to appropriate staff.
  • Notify law enforcement personnel of any emergency situations and patrol/monitor FSU facilities to ensure the safety and well-being of the campus and visitors.
  • Complete frequent inspections of assigned security equipment and notify supervisor of repair/replacement needs.
  • Position will be required to work special events/assignments which may be outside of traditional work schedule such as sporting events, VIP detail, etc. Position will also be trained and required to perform duties regarding crowd control and traffic direction.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the chief or their designee not otherwise prohibited by law or regulations.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to one year is also acceptable)
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of this position including moving up to 30lbs
  • A valid Florida or Georgia driver's license or the ability to obtain prior to hire.

  • Ability to demonstrate effective customer service skills.

  • Ability to deal with crises and manage sensitive information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Experience working with applicable computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite, and basic computer functions.
  • Ability to differentiate emergency from non-emergency situations.
