Job Description

Position Overview

Troubleshoot, test, and inspect electrical apparatus. Perform as "lead" person on projects. Perform other assignments as required. Position requires some technical supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all aspects of testing and maintenance of electrical power distribution systems.
  • Troubleshoot, calibrate simple relays, use load recording instrumentation, and test low and medium voltage switchgear (up to 15 kV class).
  • Test and troubleshoot moderately complex electrical systems, simple relay systems, and power metering.
  • Perform simple power system studies including short circuit analysis and protective device coordination.
  • Write detailed reports at the end of projects using computer systems and process job billing accurately.
  • Conduct complex analysis for equipment labeling projects in compliance with industry, international standards, local requirements, and Company procedures.
  • Take an active role in business development and expansion.
  • Develop and execute written job proposals including estimates of man-hours, expenses, scope, and pricing.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate Engineer (BSEE or BSME) with no experience OR Graduate of an applicable Electrical Technical School/Military equivalent with a minimum of three years of similar work experience OR High school education or equivalent with a minimum of four years similar work experience.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and industry standards such as OSHA and NFPA.
  • Passed NETA (National Electrical Testing Association) exam.
  • Strong background and experience in switchgear testing up to the 15 kV class.
  • Good theoretical understanding of electrical power systems.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with clients and peers.
  • Demonstrated good judgment, dependability, and the ability to supervise projects with technical expertise and sound business management skills.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word (editing, formatting, and using templates), Internet research for standards/products/manufacturers, and operation of computer-controlled test equipment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and nights; must be available for out-of-town and international travel.
  • Physical Requirements: Regular standing, walking, manual dexterity, lifting up to 25 pounds routinely and up to 100-pound test sets frequently.
  • Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Sponsorship is not available.
