Position Overview

Senior Director of Marketing and Development for San Antonio Pets Alive! (SAPA!) is a key leadership role responsible for advancing SAPA!’s mission of saving at-risk cats and dogs through strategic fundraising, donor relations, public engagement, and brand management. Working closely with the Executive Director and Board Fundraising Committee, you will design and implement a comprehensive strategy to build brand awareness, drive community engagement, and generate sustainable funding for lifesaving programs.

Location: San Antonio, Texas | Status: Full-Time, Exempt | Compensation: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year

Key Responsibilities

Development & Fundraising (40%)

  • Develop and execute an annual fundraising plan including individual giving, corporate sponsorships, grants, events, and planned giving.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
  • Oversee planning and execution of major fundraising events such as the Paws for Celebration Gala, Paws in the Park, The Big Give, Giving Tuesday, Putts for Paws, and other donor engagement activities.
  • Manage donor recognition and communications, ensuring consistent stewardship and impact reporting.
  • Partner with the Executive Director and Board on major gift cultivation and capital campaign efforts.
  • Supervise the grants calendar, proposal submissions, and reporting in partnership with grant writers and the Executive Director.

Marketing & Communications (50%)

  • Oversee all marketing, media relations, and public communications to build SAPA!’s brand awareness and visibility.
  • Manage digital marketing strategy including website, email campaigns, and social media platforms.
  • Develop compelling storytelling campaigns highlighting SAPA!’s lifesaving impact, adoption success stories, and donor contributions.
  • Serve as SAPA!’s media liaison for local TV, radio, and print opportunities.
  • Lead design and production of collateral materials including brochures, newsletters, press releases, and digital ads, ensuring brand consistency across all communications.

Leadership & Collaboration (10%)

  • Supervise and mentor development and marketing staff, including roles such as Development Manager and Marketing Strategist.
  • Collaborate across departments – with particular emphasis on Adoptions – to highlight impact stories and funding needs.
  • Manage expenses to ensure that investments in marketing and development drive measurable revenue opportunities.
  • Establish an annual plan with clearly defined monthly goals and performance metrics, providing monthly reports on fundraising performance, donor trends, and marketing reach.
  • Network within the San Antonio community to advance organizational visibility and partnerships, representing SAPA! at events and speaking engagements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising and marketing, preferably in animal welfare.
  • Demonstrated success in securing major gifts, sponsorships, and grants.
  • Strong experience with event planning, donor management software (e.g., Bloomerang, Salesforce, DonorPerfect), and CRM analytics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a talent for compelling storytelling and public speaking.
  • Proficiency with digital marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp, Canva, Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics).
  • Proven ability to lead, supervise, and collaborate across teams.
  • Possession of a valid State Drivers License.
