Job Description
Position Overview
S&ME is looking for a motivated and passionate entry-level Construction Materials Engineer to join our Construction Services team in Greensboro, North Carolina. As an entry-level Construction Materials Engineer, you will be vital in ensuring quality and safety by assessing and verifying construction materials, performing field and laboratory testing, and supporting project engineers/managers in delivering solutions to challenging construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Experts: Work closely with licensed engineers and senior staff to learn and grow in construction materials testing and inspection.
- Field Testing: Perform testing and inspections on construction materials, including soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
- Data Management: Accurately document field activities and test results using software such as Metafield® to maintain project integrity and efficiency.
- Proposal and Report Preparation: Assist in preparing project proposals and reports, ensuring technical accuracy and alignment with client needs.
- Client Support: Communicate with clients and project stakeholders, providing updates and ensuring project goals are met effectively.
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in: Civil, Geotechnical, Construction Engineering, or a related field (or the ability to obtain it within six months)
- A basic understanding of: construction plans and specifications
- Strong computer skills: including proficiency in Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn industry-specific software
- A commitment to: obtaining relevant certifications (e.g., ICC, ACI, DOT) in areas like aggregates, asphalt, soil, reinforced concrete, or masonry
Preferred Qualifications
- EIT certification or the ability to obtain it within six months of hire
