Key Responsibilities

• Prepares and submits clean claims to various insurance companies either electronically or by paper.
• Answers questions from patients, clerical staff, and insurance companies.
• Identifies and resolves patient billing complaints.
• Prepares, reviews, and sends patient statements.
• Evaluates patient’s financial status and establishes budget payment plans.
• Follows and reports the status of delinquent accounts.
• Reviews accounts for possible assignment, makes recommendations to the Director of Billing and Reimbursement, and prepares information for the collection agency.
• Performs daily backups on the office computer system.
• Performs various collection actions including contacting patients by phone, correcting, and resubmitting claims to third-party payers.
• Processes payments from insurance companies and prepares a daily deposit.
• Participates in educational activities and attends monthly staff meetings.
• Conducts self in accordance with the employee handbook.
• Maintains strict confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
• Ensures accurate billing and coding as per regulations.
• Works with the administrator in training providers in coding and the EMR system.

Required Qualifications

• Certified Biller (Required)
• Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time
• Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction
• Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with the whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard
• Communication skills using the spoken word
• Ability to see within normal parameters
• Ability to hear within normal range
• Ability to move about

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years experience in medical billing (Preferred)
• Certified Coder (Preferred)
