Position Overview
Junior Construction Project Engineer – Reports To: Senior Project Manager – Construction Services. The Junior Construction Project Engineer (Jr. CPE) supports the Senior Project Manager – Construction Services and the construction management team in the administration, coordination, and documentation of construction projects. This role is ideal for an entry-level professional seeking to develop technical and project management skills while assisting with day-to-day project tasks, documentation control, field observations, and communication among KSN staff, clients, and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with bidding, inspection, and construction management activities under the guidance of senior staff.
- Support the preparation, organization, and maintenance of project documentation including submittals, RFIs, daily reports, and change orders.
- Help track project schedules, budgets, and deliverables using project management tools.
- Prepare for and attend project meetings; develop meeting agendas, record meeting notes, action item logs, and progress reports.
- Assist in reviewing and processing contractor pay applications, submittals, and requests for clarification.
- Conduct site observations and prepare field reports with supporting photographs and notes.
- Support quantity management, cost forecasting, and progress documentation efforts.
- Communicate with contractors, clients, and KSN staff to ensure proper coordination of project activities.
- Maintain organized project files, correspondence, and records in accordance with KSN standards.
- Participate in developing and maintaining templates and checklists to improve efficiency and consistency across projects.
- Perform basic constructability reviews under supervision.
Required Qualifications
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Clear and professional written and verbal communication abilities.
- Basic understanding of construction contract administration, scheduling, and documentation.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and industry-standard software packages such as AutoCAD and BlueBeam.
- Basic understanding of construction processes, terminology, and methods, including the interpretation of plans and specifications.
- Bachelor’s degree (or near completion) in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Willingness to learn and follow company standards, policies, and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with California Public Contracting Code and public works project delivery.
- Exposure to Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD software for reviewing drawings, preparing markups, and coordinating design-related tasks.
- Experience (through internship or coursework) in civil, structural, or construction management projects.

Compensation
Compensation package commensurate with experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Salary Range: $70,000–$80,000 per year.
