Job Description Summary: This position is responsible for administrative and clinical duties delegated by the clinic manager, practice administrator, and team of physicians. The Medical Assistant assists physicians and APPs with patient care in compliance with the Ohio Administrative Code – performing routine clinical tasks (EKGs, vitals, taking histories, and medication reconciliation) as well as back-office duties (patient assistance, pre-certs, prescription refills, chart preparation, etc.).
Work Details: Monday-Friday 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM or 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM | Work Shift: Day | Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 | Department: HVP Gahanna
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate efficient patient flow by preparing patients for visits and providing services as determined by providers.
- Successfully complete Care Connect EMR documentation skills and maintain an updated EMR inbox.
- Perform necessary administrative duties to ensure all patient information is current.
- Maintain and clean the environment, work area, and equipment while reporting any malfunctions.
- Communicate respectfully with patients and customers.
- Collaborate with the health care team to ensure continuity and quality of care.
- Collect and monitor patient data, reporting needs as directed.
- Adhere to documentation guidelines for patient chargeable items and services.
- Continuously monitor processes for quality, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency, and engage in improvement activities.
- Pursue continuous learning and complete required training and education.
- Promote patient quality, safety, and experience initiatives and act as a role model.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and resource in quality, performance improvement, and EMR (e.g., EPIC Super User).
- Oversee patient flow and provide education as determined by provider licensure and policy.
- Function as a clinical preceptor and train new staff.
- Comply with the applicable scope of practice guidelines.
- Be available for travel to other Heart and Vascular Practices as needed (Grady, Grove City, Pickerington, or on rare occasions, Chillicothe).
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Must meet one of the following:
- Completion of a High School Medical Assistant Career Technical Program, or
- Graduation from an accredited School of Medical Assisting, or
- Completion of Military Medic training, or
- Certification as a Paramedic (EMT-P), or
- At least one year of experience as a physician-trained Medical Assistant in a similar clinical setting.
- BLS - Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required.
