Product Development Engineer - Mechanical Engineer
Position Overview
At Harbor Designs & Manufacturing, we specialize in creating custom-tailored solutions across a variety of industries including medical devices, consumer products, transportation, and defense. As a Product Development Engineer, you will collaborate with clients, industrial designers, and internal stakeholders to transform innovative ideas into cost-effective products that are optimized for manufacturing. Applicants should be local to Baltimore Maryland.
Key Responsibilities
- Complex part design for plastic injection molding experience required
- Design for Manufacturing experience and production process knowledge (thermoforming, sheet metal, injection molding, casting, extrusion, etc.) required
- Multi-part plastic design and assembly experience required
- Wire Harness/Wire Routing Design experience required
- Create 3D CAD models using Solidworks and prepare detailed 2D drawings for manufacturing and assembly
- Work closely with customers to capture design intent and communicate project details
- Manage projects from concept, design, prototype, manufacturing to assembly and packaging
- Provide creative and innovative solutions to design challenges across diverse industries
- Develop and build protocols and fixtures for component validation testing
- Conduct finite element analysis of components and assemblies using Solidworks
- Plan and manage projects involving customers and suppliers
- Strategically source component suppliers and collaborate with the sourcing team
- Communicate designs with manufacturers and suppliers for cost-effective production
Required Qualifications
- Motivated professional with a leadership mentality and innovative approach
- Excellent attention to detail and troubleshooting skills with fabrication and electrical expertise
- Proficient in Solidworks (including PDM) and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; self-motivated and team oriented
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong CAD background with plastic design experience
- 2-5 years of SOLIDWORKS experience
- Willingness to grow and tackle challenging designs
