Position Overview

Salary: $6,290.00 - $8,486.00 Monthly
Location: Rancho Cucamonga City Hall, CA
The City of Rancho Cucamonga is seeking an Assistant Engineer for the Land Development Section within the Engineering Services Department. Reporting to a Principal Civil Engineer, this full-time role requires performing a variety of field and office tasks related to project review and entitlement processing. The successful candidate will participate in engineering plan checks on projects ranging from single family residential to commercial and industrial developments, collaborating with internal departments, external consultants, and developers to ensure timely and accurate project approvals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review projects through the entitlement process and issue conditions of approval.
  • Assist with the management of contracts for engineering consultants.
  • Collect, verify, and process project data.
  • Review engineering studies, plans, and specifications related to site grading, storm drain systems, and street improvements.
  • Evaluate and provide recommendations on public requests and project submissions.
  • Prepare and write detailed staff reports.
  • Provide high-quality customer service through regular interaction with residents, contractors, consultants, and developers.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support departmental objectives and operational needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of two years of progressively responsible professional experience in Civil Engineering (or a combination of education and experience equivalent to six years of experience).
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles as applied to public works projects, including plan reviews, grading, storm drain systems, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Ability to obtain a valid California driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.

  • Experience in land development project reviews and public works engineering.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with consultants, developers, and various internal departments.
